CAR THEFT PROTECTION
Why Bollards Are the Best Deterrent Against Car Theft
Car theft is rising across the United States, with organized groups targeting vehicles in driveways, apartment lots, and suburban streets.

Modern thieves use advanced tools—like relay devices that clone your key fob—to steal cars in under a minute, often without setting off alarms. As theft rates climb, more homeowners are looking for serious ways to protect their vehicles. While most anti-theft tools rely on software or hidden trackers, bollards act as a clear, immovable barrier between your car and the road.
What are Bollards?
Bollards are sturdy, vertical posts designed to control or block vehicle access. Commonly made from steel, concrete, or aluminum, they are used in both residential and commercial settings to protect people, buildings, and property from vehicle impact or unauthorized entry. In driveways, they serve as a physical barrier to prevent car theft. In public spaces, they help guide traffic and protect pedestrians.
Bollards come in various types such as fixed, retractable, and automatic, offering flexible security solutions depending on the space and level of protection needed.
Why Most Anti-Theft Solutions Don’t Go Far Enough
A lot of homeowners are turning to digital or mechanical tools to secure their cars—but many of these solutions can be bypassed or only help after the fact:
- IGLA Anti-Theft Systems: These require a special combination or phone app to start your car. But professional thieves often carry hardware that can override these systems.
- Steering Wheel Locks: Once considered effective, they’re now easily cut with battery-powered tools. Thieves often remove them in seconds.
- Apple AirTags & GPS Trackers: These are helpful for locating your car after it’s been stolen, but they do nothing to prevent the theft itself.
- Wheel Locks: While they slow down thieves slightly, anyone with a lug key or socket wrench can remove them quickly.
The problem with all of these tools? None of them physically prevent your vehicle from being moved.
Why Bollards Work
Driveway bollards physically block access to your car, which makes them one of the few truly preventative options. Even if a thief has your key fob or can start your engine, the vehicle isn’t going anywhere.
Plus, the presence of a bollard acts as a powerful visual deterrent. Thieves want quick, quiet targets, not a driveway with heavy-duty posts in the way.
Types of Residential Bollards We Offer
As a U.S.-based manufacturer and retailer, we offer several bollard options to fit different property needs:
- Fixed Bollards: Permanently installed for constant, no-maintenance protection
- Manual Retractable Bollards: Can be unlocked and lowered when needed, with a secure locking mechanism
- Automatic Bollards: Raised and lowered with a remote, keypad, or access control system for seamless daily use
All of our bollards are built from high-strength steel or aluminum and finished to withstand weather and daily use. They’re ideal for residential driveways, gated entrances, and high-end vehicle protection.
A Long-Term Investment in Residential Security
Bollards don’t rely on apps, subscriptions, or software updates. They don’t lose signal. They don’t need recharging. They just work. That’s why more homeowners are choosing bollards to prevent car theft instead of reacting to it.
At Bollard Boys USA, we ship directly from our U.S. warehouse and make it easy to secure your home with long-lasting protection.
How is the Bollard Installation Process?
Installing a bollard typically involves core-drilling into concrete or asphalt, securing the bollard in place with rebar or anchor bolts, and filling the base with concrete for maximum strength. Some models, like our manual retractables, also require space for a receiver sleeve that’s embedded below ground.
If you’re handy and have access to basic tools, it’s a straightforward DIY project. But if you’d prefer help, we can either handle the installation ourselves (in select areas) or connect you with a trusted installer near you.
Just reach out—we’ll walk you through the options and make sure the process is as smooth as possible.
